New Legislation and Tasmania Together 2020

Tasmania Together is a 20-year plan developed by Tasmanians to shape their future and to protect the lifestyle they value.

The plan is the result of the biggest community consultation in Tasmania's history, undertaken in 1999.

It outlines what Tasmanians want for themselves and their children in 2020, and charts the 24 goals and 212 benchmarks necessary to get there.

Tasmania Together influences the way the State Government and Local Government operates, acting as a guide when framing budgets and developing initiatives and priorities. The community too has embraced the plan, with more than 20 peak bodies and organisations now formal partners with the Tasmania Together Board.

The development of new Aboriginal Heritage Legislation for Tasmania closely aligns with several Tasmania Together goals.

Tasmanians told us they want to live in a community that acknowledges and respects the contribution that the Aboriginal community and its culture have made to the state. They want to protect and conserve our natural and cultural heritage, and want all Tasmanians treated with compassion and respect.

Goal No 7:
Foster and value vibrant and diverse rural, regional and remote communities that are connected to each other and the rest of the world.

Goal No 9:
Foster an inclusive society that acknowledges and respects our multicultural heritage, values diversity and treats everyone with compassion and respect.

Goal No 10:
Acknowledge and respect the contribution that the Aboriginal community and its culture have made and continue to make to Tasmania and its identity.

Goal No 12:
Provide all Tasmanians with the opportunity to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

Goal No 13:
Have a system of government that is open, seeks and listens to people's views and ideas, and uses them in decision making at all levels.

Goal No 21:
Value, protect and conserve our natural and cultural heritage.
