Making Protection a Success
Working with the Aboriginal Heritage Office midlands farmer Richard Gardner obtained a grant to fence off this Aboriginal quarry located on his farm, in order to protect this fascinating cultural site for future generations. Additionally the site has undergone natural regeneration and now provides a source of native seed and wildlife habitat
.
Introducing the Aboriginal Heritage Office
The Aboriginal Heritage Office co-ordinates Aboriginal culture and heritage services and is a part of the Department of Tourism, Parks, Heritage and the Arts. Staff of the Office are available to assist individuals, groups and organisations in:
- working with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community on a wide range of matters related to heritage and culture.
- guiding people through regulatory processes.
- researching and conserving Tasmanian Aboriginal heritage.
- identifying and assessing Tasmanian Aboriginal heritage places and management requirements.
- integrating Tasmanian Aboriginal heritage protection with sustainable development processes.
- raising awareness and understanding of Tasmanian Aboriginal heritage.
- providing training and educational opportunities.
